When it comes to women and girls, there’s no question as to the importance of closing the digital divide and the benefit to society this creates.
Worldwide, there are 200 million fewer women than men who own a mobile phone, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
“Women are currently on the wrong side of the digital skills gap. In tech, it’s a man’s world. We have a global problem, we have an urgent problem on our hands.” Lindsey Nefesh-Clarke, founder of Women’s Worldwide Web
It’s well established that supporting women directly benefits their families and community. Without equal access to technology and the internet, women and girls can’t equally participate in our ever more digital societies. This means their voices aren’t represented on issues that affect them, they’re left out of education and economic opportunities, and society loses out on lost talent and potential. That’s why sparrow supports programs that help enable women and girls with digital access.
