Why sparrow?

What does sparrow symbolize?

In Latin, “spero” (pronounced “sparrow”) means hope. So when you say our name, you literally spread hope. One of the most common birds on the planet, the sparrow is also a great symbol for our ethos of inclusion and being the carrier for the common good.

Can I bring my own device (BYOD) to sparrow?

Most smartphones these days can be activated with sparrow, as long as they are paid for and unlocked. You can also purchase a brand new device with no SIM from the manufacturer, or retail store, and bring it to sparrow. All you need is a sparrow-compatible phone and a sparrow SIM card. Contact customer care to see if your phone is compatible.

Can I keep my current phone number?

Yes! We can easily transfer (port) your existing phone number over from your current provider. You can request this either during your signup, or by contacting sparrow customer care.

Do you have live support?

Yes! Our friendly care team is available Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm CST, and Sat-Sun, 11am-5pm CST. 844-697-7277 You can also reach us here. The sparrow customer care nest is based in Hiawatha, IA.

How long do number transfers take?

Most transfers take between 1 - 4 hours to complete. If your information is complete and all parties (you, your old provider and sparrow) are available during the number transfer, they normally go very smoothly. However, be prepared to be without a cellular device for up to 24 hours, just in case there are delays.

How to transfer your phone number to sparrow

Transferring your phone number to sparrow is easy—just let us know you’d like to keep your current phone number and we’ll guide you through the process.

Is device financing an option?

Should I cancel my current service before porting my mobile number to sparrow?

No. You will need to port your number first to make sure that you don’t lose your current phone number. Once the port is complete, your previous account will automatically be cancelled. You may want to follow up with your previous provider to verify that they closed your account.

When is a good time to plan my transfer?

Choose a time that is convenient for you, and when you can be without your phone for a few hours. While it may seem like a good idea to port over the weekend, many providers do not have full staff available over the entire weekend. This could lengthen the process.

Will I be without service during the transfer?

Yes. Once the number transfer from your old provider begins, there will be a period of time when your previous phone will be without service and the new phone is not yet active. Its agood idea to have an alternative phone available where we can reach you, in case we need to verify information and to help setup your new phone.

Can I get a new phone number?

If you’d like a new phone number, call customer care and we’ll be happy to generate options for you.

Do I need to contact my old carrier?

In some cases, you may need to contact your previous carrier, if required information is missing for transferring your phone number or unlocking your device. When you are ready, contact sparrow and we will send a request to your old provider, who then transfers your number to sparrow.
